Abstract

Marta Vela makes a comparison between the life, work and thought of Benito Pérez Galdós (1843-1920), writer, journalist, music critic and amateur musician, with the life and works of Beethoven (1770-1827), following the trail of Beethoven's creations in his written work, especially in three novels of his authorship: La desheredada (1881), Fortunata y Jacinta (1886-1887) and Tristana (1892). A realistic portrait of the period is presented in terms of musical training and its place and presence in 19th century society, making a reflection through the life and work of both authors on the values of freedom, equality and justice coming from classical antiquity and its development through art.
